All About Andrea
We recently sat down with Founder and Owner of Aromatherachi, Andrea Giordano, for an interview. Join us as we go beyond an “About Us” section and get to know Andrea on a more personal level.
Aromatherachi: Good morning Andrea! Thanks for joining us.
Andrea Giordano: Of course! I am excited for our conversation.
Aromatherachi: First off, tell us about your background.
Andrea Giordano: It started out when I got my degree in Ornamental Horticulture from SUNY [State University of New York] Farmingdale.
Aromatherachi: What certifications do you have?
Andrea Giordano: In addition to my Degree from SUNY Farmingdale, I am also certified by the Aromahead Institute. This organization certifies aromatherapists upon the completion of courses in the use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes. Finally, I am a Feng Shui Master. Feng Shui speaks about the 5 elements (water, earth, metal, fire, wood) and I believe that they can be used in conjunction with aromatherapy. Aromatherapy and essential oils can be an added tool when associated with the 5 elements, trying to overcome different situations! This relationship can help people work in different areas. For example, white sage (Salvia apiana) is used for space clearing. Instead of burning the herb and creating smoke, you could use a hydrosol and spray the aroma. Either produces the same outcome.
Aromatherachi: When did your interest in Aromatherapy begin?
Andrea Giordano: I’ve always had a lifetime interest in plants. That, combined with a devotion to natural and organic products, lead me to start Aromatherachi. As a girl, I gardened with mom. We grew so many things, including various herbs – basil, rosemary, thyme, chives. The smells of these plants spoke to me!
Aromatherachi: What are your three favorite Essential oils?
Andrea Giordano: I would have to say Orange-Sweet (Citrus sinensis), Vetiver (Vetiveria Zizanoides) and Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin). I feel they are a balanced mixture. These oils are grounding and happy. They balance my over-active mind!
Aromatherachi: Do you feel part of an overall aromatherapy community?
Andrea Giordano: Yes I certainly do! This is a very close knit community that shares easily.
Aromatherachi: Speak to me about your classes
Andrea Giordano: Teaching is a real passion of mine and I have been doing it for 3 years now. I teach because I love to see the expression on peoples faces when they mix their own blends. It is their own creation! They are learning about the oils from me, but it is their own blends. They create their own aromas. I think that is so exciting. There are endless blends and I love learning about ones I have never even imagined. So in that way, it really is an even exchange of learning. In my classes, we will make a number of things – shower fizzies, different saves through infused herbal oils, soaps, lip balms, body butter, green cleaning, lotions. I just love teaching. I love the repeat students because it is great watching their knowledge of the products created and involved grow!
Aromatherachi: What do you hope you can achieve through Aromatherachi?
Andrea Giordano: I hope to put my stamp on the world. I’ll be traveling soon to visit with distillers all over the world and will be bringing home their wonderful oils. I want to teach people that they do not need to use chemicals to feel beautiful or to heal certain things!
